The Q5 is brand’s second crossover SUV that Audi introduced in 2009. Now after the 2018 model year redesign, this model is probably the most modern car in the class. Audi revealed the second generation Q5 at the 2016 Paris Motor Show. The newest version provides smoother drive thanks to the new modern chassis and upgraded powertrain. The styling is an evolution of the previous form while the interior is up to Audi’s reputation and equipped with all modern tech features one will need or wish.
The current version is available with the base engine or in the performance-oriented SQ5 form. Buyers can also choose between three trim options. For the 2019 Audi Q5 version, the Audi could introduce two new variants while changes in the design and interior are not expected. The RS Q5 version could join with the V-6 engine and 400+ hp. Audi could also offer the hybrid version for the upcoming model year.
2019 Audi Q5: Design
The second-generation Q5 is based on brand’s MLB Evo platform like many other models from Audi’s lineup. The model also shares the powertrain and interior design with the Audi A4. The styling of the model is an evolution from the previous generation but the model has more pronounced body lines and while other changes are in details.
The 2019 Audi Q5 will not bring major changes to model’s design. The hybrid is also expected to look almost identical as the current versions. The distinction will be in details and this version will also get e-tron badging. The RS Q5 should get attention with more aggressive bumpers, unique trim, and wheel design.
Inside, like the current versions, the model will boast great execution quality and the second generation has also brought the latest tech and driver assisted equipment. The overall design is according to brand’s latest design language and high-spec versions include the Virtual Cockpit design.
The base versions will, like the current version, come with the LED DRLs and taillights, heated mirrors and power liftgate. The base equipment will also cover the leather upholstery, 8-way power front seats, three-zone climate control, etc. All versions will also include the latest infotainment system with smartphone integration features.
For more money, upper trims will add LED headlights, 20-inch wheels, driver memory setting, a 12.3-inch instrument cluster, heated rear seats and much more.
The model will also include active assistance safety systems like automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, etc.
2019 Audi Q5: Powertrain
In the base version, the 2019 Audi Q5 will return with the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. This engine provides 252 hp and torque of 273 pound-feet. Dual-clutch 7-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive are also standard.
The SQ5 versions add more agility to the drive with the 3.0-liter turbocharged V-6 engine and 8-speed gearbox. This engine delivers 354 hp and torque reaches 369 pound-feet. With this equipment, the Q5 runs to 60 mph in 5.1 seconds.
As for the RS Q5 version, we should expect it with the 2.9-liter twin-turbo V-6. The RS combination will also include the 8-speed gearbox and rear biased all-wheel-drive system. The power this model should provide is 450 hp and torque 442 pound-feet.
The Q5 e-tron should employ a 188 hp 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine in the combination with the 7-speed automatic transmission mounted electric motor for extra 108 hp. The lithium-ion battery will be located in the floor. We will see what range will this version provide.
2019 Audi Q5: Arrival, Price
The 2019 Audi Q5 is expected in summer 2018. The price should again start at around $41, 500.
